The Vintage Speedcar Associations of Australia have now accepted Classic Speedcars into their clubs.  These cars are Roll Cage cars built between December 1969 and December 1979. ( the VSA of NSW accepted period, other clubs may differ )  The cars pictured below are the first cars in this category to be restored in the NSW club. Classic Speedcars now compete Nationally in Vintage / Classic meets.
The ex Barry Butterworth VW NZ 14. This car was imported into Australia in 2001 by VSA of NSW and VSAQ club member Bob Ottaway of Queensland. The restoration was by John Stanley of New Zealand.

Facts: The original builder/ owner was Peter Bruin, a McClaren racing mechanic and it was built in 1974. All track testing was done by John Stanley in Oct. 1974. The car was driven by Barry Butterworth successfully against Mel Kenyon and A.J.Foyt in 1975/75 and was the first VW engined midget to race in NZ. ( Much to the surprise of the Americans) The chassis was patterned on the 1968 Edmonds car that Bob Tattersall drove in the USAC series. BB won the Auckland Championship twice and was runner up in the NZ Championship after a run off with Treavor Morris. Other drivers were Max Butterworth,Dave Jolly, Kerry Morris and Brent Holden.
The second roll cage car to be presented is the ex Barry Pinchbeck VW Australia 1. This car was restored and is owned by club member Harry Berry. Harry won Classic Restoration of of the Year with this car at the 2001 VSA Christmas Picnic.

The ex Bill Engelhart Sesco 3-K Racing # 61 owned by Qld. VSA of NSW clubmember Bob Ottaway.
The ex Wayne Pearce Volvo V6 restored by Wayne and owned by Graham Gallagher of Coffs Harbour
