EMPIRE SPEEDWAY
In the early days of Speedway when riders and drivers were approachable it was a real treat for a young boy to come face to face with his Aussie hero like Aub Lawson or Jack Chignell or maybe a famous Overseas rider such as Jack Parker, Ken Mc Kinlay or Ove Fundin.
Listed on these pages are some of the riders and drivers I came face to face with and said " Could I have your autograph please?"
( yes I know the correct English is "May I have your autograph please ?" ) but I was only a little kid.
The images of these riders and drivers has stayed in my memory all this time and this was a time of mixed programmes of Speedway, Solos, Sidecars and Speedcars.
It will be mainly the fans of Speedway in the 1950s, and 1960s that will remember these names, what fantastic memories they bring back.
My all time favourite Aub Lawson.
The fabulous Jack Parker of England.
